Where do you live most of the year?
Melbourne! I live with my brother and sister in Carlton. I lived in a lot of cities and suburbs and this is by far my favourite....so far.
What do you look for in a restaurant when you walk in?
I don't know if it's something I look for but the first thing I notice is the lighting. I feel like the mood lighting plays such a huge part of the meal for me. How they light the tables, is it just dark enough but not too dark to not see the menu?
What is your final meal?
ok ok ok this is a big one. I THINK its butter chicken, coconut rice and ALSO a double patty cheeseburger. I'd love to throw in some Japanese as well like a Katsu curry and just eat all of those 3 until I'm totally full. Wait a while and stuff some warm apple crumble with vanilla ice cream in at the end.
3 guests for dinner, dead or alive?
This is a seriously tough question so I'm going to go with current obsessions. Mk.Gee, Clairo and Henry David Thoreau.
Tyde’s Taste Maker Guide
Breakfast: Terror Twilight, Collingwood
Order: Eggs Kurosawa. Delicious scrambled eggs on a bed of brown rice with bok choi, crispy tofu, ginger, teriyaki sauce and kewpie mayo. INSANITY.
Coffee: Honestly I make my coffee at home every morning. If I had to choose somewhere other than my kitchen it would probably be Terror Twilight again.
Order: Drink order is a dirty iced chai. It's the best I've had in melbourne. They serve it with a thin orange slice and it always comes SO cold. Perfect.
Lunch: Pasta Classica, Collingwood
Order: Depends what day of the week it is. If it's a Friday I'm having schnitzel because it's schnitzel Fridays. Either in a sandwich or alongside the pasta they've made fresh that day. This is my faaavourite spot for lunch. All the pasta is made fresh daily and it's like $13 for a plate. Super small and family vibes. The ladies that work there are so wonderful and it feels like a home cooked meal. They will make sure you leave seriously full. The sandwiches are massive and you choose whatever you want inside.
Special dinner: Carlton Wine Room! (thank troye for this one)
Put on a nice shirt, smell good and go order almost everything. The anchovy toast, the stracciatella, the potatoes, just get it all. They change the mains around but they used to have the most juicy chicken and that with the potatoes is just incredible.
Casual dinner: Pho Fitzroy!
Order: Honestly my second home. Ive only ever eaten the Chicken Laksa Curry there and it is perfect. Add some chilli on the side. Again super relaxing and feels like a home cooked meal. Don't forget the coke zero.
Special shoutouts
Citrus! If you’re hungry for some of the best Sri Lankan food go here. $25 all you can eat buffet babbyyyyy.
Hectors Deli. Have to always have these guys on my list. Best sandwiches around no doubt. I just can't have a schnitzel sandwich everyday so I have to refrain. But it's a once a week thing honestly.
Fenton. Love the people at Fenton. Chilli scramble is on another level. It's close to the house so I go there a lot. Nice and easy with a relaxed vibe.
That was fun! Thanks for having me <3
