Where do you live most of the year?
Mallorca, Spain. I just got married so I wanted this year to be about health and fitness. Needed the chill Spanish vibes and the freeing landscape of the island to focus on running and cycling, and find that unique balance with my music production. The sun and sea always makes for a great production day haha.
What do you look for in a restaurant when you walk in?
The vibe. I need family chaos. Like one of my favourite spots on the island is ‘La Rosa Vermutería & Colmado’. You’re welcomed by waiters and even the chefs chatting with you. If they like you, they’ll want to know more about you. Now it’s like family vibes you know. They welcome us with love. We eat the best food. And the vibe is always packed no matter the time of day.
What is your final meal?
Tasty Jerk by the Crystal Palace football stadium in Croydon. I grew up eating jerk chicken, rice and peas & festival. That nostalgic taste would be my last.
3 guests for dinner, dead or alive?
Dev Hynes (Blood Orange). We are long distance friends but he’s someone I would love to chat hours with over dinner. His artistic expression with classical instruments and composition mixed with my love for translating feelings and spaces with sounds, would be fun.
Ritchie Hawtin. I could spend hours talking about sake with him and Japanese culture and appreciation for the little things in life. (I love sake haha shout out to Taca from @12twelv. My favourite Sake bar in the world and sorry if I’ve now baited it out 😭❤️).
Jason Statham. I grew up wanting to be as badass as him haha. I would spend hours asking about Snatch or The Italian job amongst the more famous films he’s known for. And I would want to be his gym partner 100% 😂
Kofi’s Taste Maker Guide
Breakfast: FACH (based in Bratislava, Slovakia)
Order: okay I keep my order simple. You HAVE to get the famous ginger shot. Get a mint tea with extra lemon and ginger. Get a green juice (this will change your life). They have so many amazing meals but mine is the classic FACH breakfast. My wife is Slovak. So it features only the basic things you need for a breakfast. And the toast butter is elite. I would end it with any pastry.
Coffee: Omotesando Koffee (West London)
Order: A taste of home I say. My delusion i love to believe that I’ll be back home to Japan but until that day comes, this is the best of the best. I get the 12-hour Cold Brew, with any light roasted bean.
Lunch: Taro, Soho London
Order: My go to is the Spicy Chicken Teri Don. Eat in. Have this. And you’ll be set for the best Japanese lunch you can find in London. It never fails to disappoint.
Special dinner: Nobis Hotel, Palma
Order: The vibe is unreal. It’s a hidden gem in the middle of Palma, tucked away while sipping on the finest cocktails. I always get a negroni and the wife stays on her usual mallorcan white wine from upstairs in the speak easy bar. The whole restaurant as well has a speak easy vibe. So hidden we love it. We get a mix of food to try.
To start with, we got the 1st Appetiser. Basically bread with homemade olive oil etc followed by this amazing starter: Scallop Carpaccio and Caviar with Melon & Yuzu Cold Soup. The soup was served in a shot glass. So slurp it down. Don’t pour it on your plate haha we almost did. Low-Temperature Lamb in a Pistachio Crust, Madeira Sauce & Moroccan-Style Lamb-Stuffed Piquillo Peppers was my favourite. The stuffing was the selling point. But before you leave make sure you try the tiramisu. It’s broken down to its purest scientific form. Looks like a cake with ice cream and is phenomenal. Maybe the best tiramisu I’ve ever had.
Casual dinner: La Rosa Vermutería & Colmado
Order: Tapas vibes. We always get the Pan Con Tomate, Octopus Croquettes, Shrimps in garlic and butter sauce served with lightly toasted bread, lamp chops served on top of fries with Padron peppers. We have a bottle of the Mallorcan white wine. If we have the space for it, the basque cheesecake is a must.
